COURSEWORK SET BRIEF
Our task as A-S media students is to create a opening for a film (2.30 minutes max)
In order to do so the key elements we studied we studied are as follows:
- Mise-en-scene
- Camera
- Sound
- Editing
Mise-en-scene:
A French word literally meaning ‘the action of putting onto stage’
Camera:
Camera angle, shot size, camera movement etc, all play an important role in defining our shot. For example if our subject is shown from a lower angle, it gives the audience a feeling that the subject holds authority and are portrayed as a strong individual. Whereas if the subject is shown from a higher angle it shows that the subject is weak and has no authority.
Sound:
Sounds that are present in our shot. Sound is divided into two categories
- Diegetic sounds
- Non diegetic sounds
The sounds from within the film world
Non Diegetic sound:
The sounds from outside the film world, the sounds which are added later in editing and are not in the film world.
Editing:
Jump cuts, cuts, colour grading, adding non diegetic sounds, etc are covered in editing
