The History and Evolution of Film

 The Lumière brothers

Louis and Auguste Lumière were French inventors and pioneering camera equipment producers that developed the first motion-picture camera and projector, known as the Cinématographe. The motion picture La Sortie des ouvriers de l'usine Lumière, also referred to as "Workers Leaving the Lumière Factory," was created by them and is recognized as the "first motion picture" (1895). Louis focused on finding a commercially feasible method of developing film, and by the time he was 18, he had had such great success that, with the help of his father's money, he founded a factory for producing photographic plates, which was an immediate success. The Lumières were producing over 15 million plates annually by 1894. On December 28, 1895, a showing at the Grand Café marked the start of film.
